THE TRIP OVERVIEW

Fed up with the winter ‘blues’? Done with the grey skies and drizzle? Let's face it, winter in the Northern parts of the world can be quite dreadful. Do you want to break the routine for a bit? Are you looking for some action? Then join us as we sail around the stunning Greek waters in wintertime!
Granted, it’s not 35-plus degrees, but you will experience good sailing conditions, a lesser crowd of charter boats, crisp skies, and the same beautiful places, which will make this trip a winner compared to any sailing spent elsewhere this time of the year!
This is an awesome trip for people who are looking for adventure, for anyone keen on building more miles and experience between certificates, and also for those who need an exciting “get-away” from the dark winter months. There will be opportunities for lots of sailing with early morning starts, long legs throughout the day, and arrival at sundown. If convenient, night sailing will be included as well.

Imagine after your Greek Winter Sailing expedition, the stories that you will be able to share, the pictures that you will collect, and the thrill of adventure to be relived!
This kind of trip is where the magic happens!
CONTENT & SCHEDULE

SYLLABUS EXAMPLES
WHAT TO EXPECT
THE SAILING WEEK

The sailing takes place in the Saronic and Argolic gulf which are located south of Athens and close to the Eastern finger of Peloponnese. This area offers phenomenal sailing, wonderful Greek villages to visit, and a variety of learning possibilities (if desired). If conditions permit, we may even venture out to the islands of the Cyclades.
Depending on the requests, we may do long legs and start before sunrise and finish after sunset and enjoy a full day afloat - Breakfast, lunch and dinner included enroute! We could also spend the days focusing on honing specific skills, such as Mediterranean mooring, short-handing or passage making. Regardless of what you'd prefer, we make sure that you will get the most out of your trip and the best value from this experience!

WEATHER & CONDITIONS

The weather is better than up north, that’s for sure! Sunshine, good winds, the occasional rain-squall and temperatures around 15-20 degrees in daytime, are all hallmarks of the winter months in Greece.
During wintertime, it’s quite common that there is less of a sea-breeze and the “normal” weather systems get more attention. This gives more interesting sailing conditions and varied experiences. Most importantly, while northern Europe and UK is experiencing blistering cold rain, snow and 0-5 degrees, we will enjoy the possibility of using sunscreen and taking off our heavy weather gear!

Naturally, it is still winter, so we recommend bringing with you thermals, mid-layer and wet weather gear of your choice. A warm beanie and gloves is also recommended. For sleeping onboard, a good sleeping bag that can keep a comfort temperature of +5 to +10 should do the job and keep you nice and snug.
However, your instructor has celebrated several of his birthdays in Greece in February, and he was often wearing just a shirt and long trousers. So you can almost consider the weather & conditions in Greece during winter months as being the same as the early and late part of summer that we experience in northern Europe and UK! And that’s something to look forward to when the chill starts eating into your bones!

ONBOARD
As this is an adventure- milebuilding- training- trip on a larger yacht (41-50 ft), there will be plenty of space onboard to stretch your legs. There are 3 or 4 cabins onboard depending on which boat is available, which means that two crew will share a cabin. This is great for friends who come to share the Greek Winter experience, or for couples wanting to escape the cold. If you come as a single crewmember, you will share the cabin with another enthusiastic crewmember, but you are of course also welcome to book a “single use of cabin” at an additional cost.
THE YACHTS

We have teamed up with the long-standing and highly reputable charter company GreekSails to be able to offer the Greek Winter Sailing. GreekSails is a family-run company that has been around for over 30 years, and they normally offer a fleet of 30 boats for charter, along with RYA training.
However, for our Greek Winter Sailing, we will be using one of their larger vessels to ensure that we are comfortable when covering the bigger distances. Depending on what is available at the time, we will cruise in style in a Jeanneau 409, Jeanneau 439, Jeanneau 44i, Jeanneau 469, or a Beneteau Cyclades 50.5.

Your skipper/instructor is a certified RYA YachtMaster Ocean and YachtMaster Instructor, who has 7 years of experience living in Greece all year round. He worked as a Flotilla skipper, Charter skipper, Delivery skipper and RYA Instructor, and he has taught over 750 students for the training centre in Greece. He has a tremendous love for Greece and her waters, and cannot wait to share that passion with you!
What's included
What's not included (and what to bring yourself)
We want you to get the most out of this amazing trip, and therefore we've created a kit-list of what you might want to bring, and other useful information. You will receive this with the joining instructions and general information.

Various logistical information:
The yacht and base is located in Poros, Greece (Google Location)
We are very happy to help you with recommendations of transport and hotels to and from the yacht.
The embarkation is at 1200 on Saturday and disembarkation at 1800 on Friday.
Facilities (showers and toilets) are not always available in the harbours, and we generally use the ones onboard the yacht (or in tavernas/cafes in the harbours we visit).
The yacht has ingredients for breakfast, lunch and delicious dinners for several of the evenings onboard. However, you are welcome to visit one of the wonderful Greek tavernas in the evening if you prefer. Keep in mind that this is considered “off-season” and there is no guarantee that there will be an open taverna in every harbour!
As a participant of the course, you are expected to clean the yacht on Friday afternoon, before leaving.
For safety reasons, it is required that the crew is fluent in spoken English and understands English nautical terms.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Please book flights at your own risk. As this trip requires a certain amount of participants, we will contact you a month prior to the start date to confirm if the sail is taking place.
